The Opportunity 

Are you passionate about designing and building for future generations while protecting culture, community, and environment Talon Metals is in the process of growing its multidisciplinary team for the engineering, environmental review, and permitting processes required to build a nickel mine in Tamarack, Minnesota and a Battery MInerals Processing Facility in Mercer County, North Dakota to power tomorrow’s electric vehicles. 

 

Talon Metals Corp is seeking an experienced Document Controls (75%) and Reporting (25%) Specialist to join its Team, an innovative group of mining industry professionals developing a high-grade nickel and copper deposit in Aitkin County, Minnesota. Working collaboratively within the Project Services team, you’ll develop and maintain Talon’s engineering, environmental, permitting, construction, and exploration Document Controls, as well as its project reporting. 

 

The Role 

Reporting to the VP of Information and Project Controls, you will build and maintain a series of document management systems, controls and procedures for Talon’s diverse teams. Like Talon’s other project controls, these solutions will be unified and sufficiently flexible to support varied disciplinary requirements. The successful candidate will work in a close-knit Project Controls team who collaborate to build integrated solutions and workflows. 

 

You will also be responsible for developing Talon’s project reporting tools. Working closely with Talon’s project control and disciplinary leads, you will build reports linking data from various platforms to highlight progress and challenges in Talon’s major projects. As your familiarity with Talon grows, you will also be encouraged to perform additional performance and business analysis to discover successes for others to emulate and/or areas for improvement. 

 

The Responsibilities 

 

In a typical week in this position, you might:  

  • Develop and maintain Talon’s Document Control solution and procedures based in SharePoint, including Revision Control, Review System, Naming Conventions 

  • Assist in the day-to-day duties of the project’s document control administration 

  • Contribute to the management of Talon’s CAD files 

  • Collaborate with other project control systems (ex. schedule, costing) to produce integrated project reports 

  • Ensure coordination of internal communication and control of document distribution 

  • Check the codification used by the entity and subcontractors 

  • Integrate document controls with scheduling and cost management systems 

  • Process internal document control requests in consultation with discipline leads and Project Services teams 

  • Consult on development of Talon’s data lake and reporting technical stack 

  • Design, build and maintain reports for internal and external (ex. government) stakeholders 

 

The Qualifications 

  • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives 

  • Desire to learn new things each day 

  • Experience enforcing procedures and policies across a project 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English 

  • High level of experience with Office365 and SharePoint controls 

  • Data analytics skills and experience (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau) 

  • Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat (PDF) 

  • Embraces the challenges that come with multidisciplinary and multicompany teams 

  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized 

  • Proven accuracy, reliability and completeness in job accomplishment 

  • Familiarity with document management related to design, engineering, and environmental reviews in a construction or heavy industry-related setting 

  • Bonus points for: 

  • Living near Tamarack, MN or Bismark, ND 

  • Engineering Document Management System (EDMS) experience (ex. ProjectWise, Buzzsaw, BIM360 Docs, OnTrack, Documentum, Aconex) 

  • Construction experience (esp. BIM controlling) 

  • Experience with federal agency reporting / audit compliance requirements 

 

The Fine Print 

Relocation support may be provided to candidates who wish to relocate to the Tamarack/Duluth area. This role is eligible for being conducted remotely, with regular visits to the mine project site at Tamarack MN, the processing facility project site in Mercer County ND, and other locations as necessary  (approx. 4-6 times per year). This role is strictly for candidates eligible to work in the United States of America and pass DOE qualifications.
