Position Type: Permanent
Schedule: Full-Time, remote eligible within the United States. Occasional travel to project sites near Tamarack, Minnesota, and Beulah, North Dakota will be required.
Eligibility: This position is open only to applicants who possess existing U.S. work authorization.

 

The Opportunity:

Talon Metals Corp is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Engineer – with 7+ years of extensive experience in environmental permitting and compliance within the mining sector to join its team. Talon is an innovative group of mining industry professionals developing the Tamarack Nickel Project, a high-grade nickel and copper deposit in Minnesota, and a processing facility in North Dakota. In addition, Talon is conducting ongoing mineral exploration across land packages in both Minnesota and Michigan.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and strategic oversight for permitting processes across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring full alignment with environmental regulations and sustainability objectives. This senior-level role will serve as the subject matter expert and key liaison between project teams, regulatory agencies, consultants and stakeholders, driving the company’s commitment to responsible resource development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support complex permitting and compliance efforts at the federal, state, and local levels, providing expert technical and regulatory guidance.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of technical documents and permit applications (air, water, wetlands, stormwater, waste management, and related programs) prepared by consultants or internal staff.
  • Develop and execute permitting strategies that align with project timelines and business objectives.
  • Manage multi- disciplinary project schedules, deliverables, and contractor/consultant work to ensure timely and complete submissions.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, consultants, and stakeholders to advance permitting and compliance efforts.
  • Provide strategic guidance to project teams on compliance requirements and permitting pathways.
  • Support the development of environmental management plans, monitoring programs, and mitigation strategies.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Mine Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance, preferably in mining, energy, or other heavy industrial sectors.
  • OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience may be acceptable.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, including the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), and Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).
  • Experience preparing and reviewing permit applications and technical documentation.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from research, testing results, data collation of varying difficulty arriving at an effective and logical solution.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to effectively engage with regulators, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota, Michigan and North Dakota environmental permitting processes will be highly desirable.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or other relevant certification (e.g., PMP, CPESC) is advantageous.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).
  • Database, GIS, CAD, and visualization software skills are desirable.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites in Minnesota and North Dakota.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
