As a Hydrometallurgist, you will have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced group of professionals in the mining industry developing the process for a high-grade nickel and copper deposit in Aitkin County, Minnesota.

At Talon, your primary focus will be on leaching and neutralization to produce different metal hydroxides for battery cathode material. Your role would be pivotal in the extraction and processing of metals essential for battery manufacturing.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Design, develop, and optimize leaching processes for the extraction of metals needed in battery cathode material production.

  1. Implement efficient neutralization methods to transform solutions resulting from leaching processes into metal hydroxides suitable for synthesizing cathode materials.
  2. Conduct detailed analyses and experiments to ensure the purity and quality of produced metal hydroxides meet industry standards and compliance requirements.

  1. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve process efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance the sustainability of metal extraction and hydroxide production processes.

  1. Provide technical expertise and guidance in troubleshooting challenges related to metallurgical processes.

  1. Maintain accurate records of process parameters, experimental data, and quality control measures to support continuous improvement initiatives.

  1. Design, procure, and support construction of different sized pilot plants to demonstrate the proposed process on a semi-continuous and continuous basis.

  1. Plan and support execution of pilot plant campaigns and complete a comprehensive data analysis after each campaign to improve the process.

  1. Stay updated on advances in hydrometallurgy, battery technology, and environmental regulations to incorporate best practices.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in laboratory, pilot plant or production setting in the chemical or mineral processing sectors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hydrometallurgical processes, including acid leaching, neutralization, solid liquid separation, ion exchange, and crystallization-precipitation techniques.
  • Strong understanding of metal extraction principles and techniques.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel for project related purposes (25%-30%)
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a valid driver’s license.
